Megabus
Starting out as a pilot project, megabus.com has grown very quickly into a multi-million pound e-commerce operation, turning over several million per week. I worked on this project from the very start, helping shape what is now a global travel business, operating in a number of countries.
It's a complex web build, with a sophisticated pricing model. I was instrumental in helping determine exactly how you do operate a bus travel service via the internet, working with teams at Stagecoach and a technology partner to deliver the back-end infrastructure. Currently the site runs across 12 servers due to the high traffic levels and demands on the database servers. This was my first major e-commerce project and tought me a great deal about transactional websites and server envrionments.
